Meet the Directors


Jonathan Wildgoose
Executive Chairman

Jonathan Wildgoose first worked for the company during University holidays in 1979, he became a Non-Executive Director in 1984 and succeeded his father John as Chairman in 2007. Jonathan achieved a BA (Honours) in Business Studies from the University of Stirling and a MBA from IMI (now IMD) in Switzerland.

His business career commenced in the family owned Hinckley Group, a Sheffield based refractory and engineering business. During this period he worked abroad developing businesses as far afield as Brazil and as close as Belgium, culminating with running one of the main UK divisions. After the successful sale of these businesses, Jonathan bought and operated a business designing and manufacturing dispense equipment for the pub and brewery sector.

Jonathan has overall operational responsibility for Wildgoose Construction; He is also the Managing Director of the sister business Wildgoose Homes.  Jonathan is a Trustee of the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, he enjoys skiing, shooting and fishing.

Laura Harcourt

Laura Harcourt (nee Wildgoose) became a non-executive Director in 1984. She has been closely associated with business decisions and discussions regarding Wildgoose Construction from a very early age.

Based in London with her family, she has a keen interest in business and property, making several purchases and refurbishments over the boom years.

She was joint founder and Director of Town and County Relocation which she sold in 1993. Inspired by her time as a personal trainer she then founded The Art of Health (a complementary health and yoga centre) which was sold in 2003. She and her business partners in the Art of Health then set up Yogabugs, a business prompting yoga for children which obtained some publicity when they turned down support from the Dragons’ Den.

She remains a Director of Yogabugs and her role at Wildgoose Construction is to support, listen, question and help the team make the right decisions.

Marjory Wildgoose
Non Executive Director

Marjory Wildgoose, already chairman and vice chairman of a number of companies representing interests in the UK and abroad, was appointed a director of the company in 1970 and has been an active non-executive director ever since.

Educated at the Girls High School in Sheffield, Marjory went on to study at RADA to pursue a career in the theatre, performing in numerous productions at the Windsor Rep with The White Rose Players and playing lead roles for the renowned English playwright Laurence du Gard Peach, as well as appearing in performances for the Armed Forces.

Marjory enjoys an active involvement in the company but still finds time for salmon fishing where her enthusiasm has brought her much success and enjoyment.

David Withers
Financial Director

David qualified as a chartered accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in Sheffield in 1990 where he worked with a number of major clients in the construction, building materials and steel making industries, before moving on to take up the position of Financial Controller of an AIM listed mining and construction group.

From 2001 until 2011, David worked as Finance Director of a US owned engineering contractor which operates through a variety of partnering and joint venture arrangements for local and national government clients, as well as public and private companies, in the UK and abroad.

David joined Wildgoose in early 2011 as the new Finance Director and has considerable experience of the many different project delivery alternatives within the construction and civil engineering industry sectors, together with detailed knowledge of the project financing and accounting methods relevant for each one.

Bryan Bennett

Bryan’s career in construction commenced as a Management Trainee within a large Midlands based Construction Company where, after training and gaining the Higher National Certificate in Construction, he focused his career on Estimating and other Pre-Construction activities.

He went on to hold a Directorship within another Midlands based Construction and Development Company prior to joining Wildgoose Construction in 1995.

Bryan’s expertise in value engineering and his commercial approach to construction solutions aids him in his responsibilities for securing both tendering opportunities and subsequent construction contracts together with the control of the Purchasing function.

Mark Winstanley

Mark has over 33 years experience in construction, having initially studied joinery at college then rising through the trades to become a valued Contracts Manager, naturally progressing to his appointment as Construction Director with Wildgoose Construction. He is an ideal candidate to showcase successful career progression with this his 18th year of dedicated loyalty and service at Wildgoose.

Mark has gained experience across a range of sectors, including social housing, retail, industrial, education and health along with environmentally sensitive and BREEAM projects. He is experienced in delivering high quality projects, managing the quality, safety, environmental and cost implications effectively.

Mark is responsible for overseeing operations, co-ordination, project delivery and contract management.

In his spare time, Mark uses his narrow boat along the canals of Derbyshire – which he designed and fitted out himself.

Simon Carr

Simon Carr joined Wildgoose Construction as Non-Executive Director earlier this year (2016). He has over 35 years experience within the construction industry. As a member of the Wildgoose Board of Directors Simon brings a depth of construction knowledge that we are delighted to benefit from.

Simon is a passionate advocate of the construction industry. He is Managing Director of Henry Boot Construction; is immediate past Chair of the National Federation of Builders and he also sits on the CBI Construction Council as well as sitting as a Member on many Boards and Committees, including the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and the Sheffield City Region Housing Executive Board, providing his invaluable knowledge and expertise in construction.

Simon is married with two sons, and is a passionate supporter of Yorkshire Cricket Club as well as enjoying many other sports.


Meet the Staff


Amie Reid
Administrative Assistant

Building on our commitment to investing in the future generation of our workforce, Amie is one of our youngest members of staff having joined Wildgoose Construction in February 2017 as an apprentice administrative assistant, working to support the company in business admin and reception. Amie left school after securing her GCSE’s and she is currently studying for a level 2 Diploma in Business Administration at Learning Unlimited, Derby.

Amie is very family orientated and she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, as well as taking long walks with her beloved pet dog, Toby. She really enjoys reading, and in particular loves to immerse herself in a good romantic tale.

Edward Dakin

Edward is one of our longest serving employees, he has been with Wildgoose Construction for over an amazing 47 years. His loyalty and dedication to his job and to the company is unparalled. He started working for us straight from school when he joined as an apprentice brick layer, moving through the ranks to his current role as Site Manager

During his long career in construction, Edward has gained experience across all sectors, managing new build and refurbishment projects. He gained his City & Guilds in Brickwork and holds his licence for plant operating equipment.

A very well liked and respected member of the team, Edward represents the heart and soul of the company with his family values, commitment and loyalty.

Edward is married with a son and daughter, and in his spare time he enjoys bell ringing and taking care of his own horse.

Simon Meredith
Managing Surveyor

Simon is one of Wildgoose’s longest serving employees, joining us over 25 years ago in June 1990. He is a very dedicated and loyal employee, whose career has been built through the ranks, culminating in his current role as Managing Surveyor. He graduated from Sheffield Hallamshire University with a BSc in Building Studies, having previously secured a HND in Building Studies.

Simon has undertaken a wide range of project types in his career, in all sectors, and as well as currently being the lead Quantity Surveyor (QS) on the Marston’s Framework, he manages a growing department of 6 Senior QS’s and 4 Assistant QS’s and is responsible for the professional training of all Assistant QS’s, many who have gone onto successful careers as QS’s and Senior QS’s both here at Wildgoose and with other companies within the industry.

Simon Oak

Simon has over 25 years experience in the construction industry, predominantly working within family firms. He joined Wildgoose over 2 years ago as Contracts Manager, and has recently been promoted to Senior Contracts Manager. He has enormous experience across all sectors, both in new build and refurbishment contracts. He qualified with his ONC in Construction & Land Use, going on to receive his HNC in Construction in the early 1990’s. He has membership of the Chartered Institute of Building and has undertaken various training courses that include H&S, SMSTS and First Aid at Work.

Simon is married with twin daughters and when he gets time is an enthusiastic road and track runner, competing for the Rotherham Harriers. As well as regularly playing badminton, he is passionate about music and is a big football fan, supporting Sheffield Wednesday FC. Simon enjoys being involved with his local church and community.

Kerry Yates
Finance Assistant

Kerry left school 3 years ago with A-levels in Maths, Psychology and Business Studies and she went straight into full time work as an accounts clerk. She joined Wildgoose in January 2015 as a Finance Assistant which she says she loves every minute of! She enjoys the variety of the challenges this role brings and she loves to learn new things.

Kerry has just finished studying for her AAT qualification and she will start studying for her chartered accountancy qualification in the near future.

A popular member of staff, Kerry is very approachable and always there to help with a bright and happy smile. She is outgoing and always looks to find a solution to any issues that arise.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and keeping fit – she used to play golf competitively and hopes to start playing again the near future.

Josh Mee
Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Josh joined us as an Assistant QS in October 2015 and is one of the many new recruits who make up the younger generation at Wildgoose Construction. Studying at Sheffield Hallam University, Josh graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying before joining Wildgoose in this his first construction role. An integral part of the team, he particularly enjoys going out onto site, where he is able to get a feel of the projects he is working on.

In his spare time Josh loves to ride road bikes, which he does at a competitive level. He is very interested in rebuilding engines and is currently building a Honda Integra Type R Track Car, spending many late nights involved in his craft with a torch on his drive at home! He likes to travel, taking road trips all over Scotland and Wales, and when he does sit down he enjoys watching films – anything with guns and explosions – and most music.

Dale Village

Dale joined Wildgoose as a Construction Trainee in August 2015, having previously worked as an Apprentice Building Control Officer with MFA Building Control. He is currently studying for a HE Foundation Degree in Construction Management at Derby College.  Dale is a great team player with an out-going and bubbly personality which makes him a very popular member of staff who is learning all aspects of construction from the ground up, both in the office and on site.

A great sports fan, in particular basketball and boxing, Dale’s real passion is for Derby County FC, for whom he is a part-time flag bearer at home games! He currently organises and plays in the Wildgoose 5-a-side team.  A self confessed ‘geek’ who loves music, TV, films and comics, Dale is very close to his family having recently become an uncle; he likes to travel, as evidenced in his recent trip to Dublin where his research into the production of Guinness is second to none!

Tim Phillips

Tim has always worked as a Buyer and was previously with McGoff & Byrne, Laing O’Rourke and Mansell Construction, as well as Wildgoose Construction, before joining us for the second time as a Senior Buyer in January 2015.

Having worked within construction for over 11 years, Tim studied for his HNC in Construction and NVQ Level 4 in Supply Chain Management.

As Senior Buyer he is responsible for the procurement of all subcontractors and trades, as well as the purchase of all materials required for various Wildgoose schemes.

A great family man, Tim loves spending time with his partner and 3 children, as well as indulging in his passion for Derby County Football Club. He is well travelled, having been to Morocco (twice), Switzerland, India, Gibraltar, Malyasia and New Zealand.

Chris Rowlandson

Chris is a very experienced buyer who began his career in construction studying for an ONC and HNC in Building Construction. He has worked in the construction industry for over 40 years at various levels on contracts that range from £50k to £220 Million with small family owned companies to very large multi nationals before joining Wildgoose Construction as a Senior Buyer in 2013.

A very valued member of a four person team of other Senior Buyers, he is responsible for the procurement of goods and services, as well as contract negotiation.

In his spare time Chris enjoys quizzes, golf and squash, and his huge sense of fun and bubbly personality ensures that he is a very popular member of the entire Wildgoose team.

A lifelong resident of Burton-on-Trent, he also enjoys travelling and recently visited his family in Perth, Australia.

Paul Winson
Senior Estimator

Paul has over 25 years in the construction industry. Starting as a site based QS and rising in his previous roles to Managing Estimator, Paul is a very experienced building estimator and bid manager who works well in a team but who is self motivated also.

He has considerable Design & Build experience, with an ability to measure Quantities from drawings/ specifications. Paul has experience of MOD and PFI estimating and bid management.

He is very computer literate and has experience in managing and training less experienced team members, as well great problem solving and cost planning skills.

Passionate about golf, Paul enjoys playing in tournaments and also for pleasure. He also enjoys motorsport, having travelled to Le Mans for the 24-hr race,  socialising with his friends and watching movies.

Sarah Godney

After studying History at Nottingham Trent University and obtaining her BA Honours degree, Sarah moved into the accounting industry.

Having progressed rapidly, Sarah is currently employed as the Wildgoose Management Accountant. Acting as a support to the Financial Director, Sarah manages sub contracts, month end reconciliations and oversees purchase ledgers.

Sarah is currently studying towards her CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualification at University as well as looking after her young son.

Alison Taylor

As one of Wildgoose’s longest serving employees; with a total of 26 years service behind her, Alison has gained experience from a variety of departments, including estimating, marketing and administration, but is currently employed as the company receptionist.

She is responsible for the majority of incoming phone calls, welcoming visitors, maintaining personnel files and assisting with health & safety issues.

Alison is a keen ‘foodie’ and enjoys all types of cuisines, especially modern English. She loves to travel, and has most recently sailed around the Adriatic Sea and visited the idyllic parts of Ibiza.

Richard Hubball

With over 20 years experience in the construction industry, including obtaining a HNC and ONC in Building Studies, a BSC Honours degree in Construction Management and working his way up from trainee, Richard is now employed as Managing Estimator.

Richard is responsible for a department consisting of four other members including a trainee. His main responsibilities include; compiling accurate and commercially viable, competitive tenders and the day to day running of the department.

Richard is a family man who enjoys taking his three children across the country on camping holidays. He enjoys walking, socialising and music, and is a huge fan of ‘The Smiths’.

Ian Bewley
BREEAM Accredited Professional

Ian is Wildgoose’s BREEAM accredited professional, as well as having ample expertise as a Design & Build Manager.

Ian is responsible for both the management of the design team and construction team, as well as the coordination of the BREEAM process, including acquiring all information required by the BREEAM assessors to gain the best possible score.

Ian is a keen sportsman and has played squash since his early twenties, and frequently hikes through the Derbyshire Dales, taking full advantage of his local surroundings.

Steve Briggs

Beginning his career in construction studying a HNC and ONC in Building Studies, Steve progressed as a Buyer for Wildgoose, through varying roles including trainee positions and as a Procurement Officer.

Now a Buyer, Steve is responsible for purchasing and order placements as well as contract negotiation and quote analysis.

As well as competing in Badminton tournaments and playing squash, Steve arranges and plays in the Wildgoose 5 aside league. Steve’s favourite travel destination is New York. Other than the Big Apple, he favours other cosmopolitan cities such as Venice, and has most recently visited Ibiza.

Lyndon Bowler

Lyndon has been employed by Wildgoose for over ten years, initially as Site Manager and more recently he has been promoted to Contracts Manager where he is experienced in managing all activities on site, ensuring that projects proceed safely, to budget, programme and client satisfaction.

He is experienced in working on sites across all sectors and also those registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, and adhering to our ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO 18001 management systems to ensure excellence of service to our clients.

Lyndon is partial to the odd game of golf, and is an eager football fan.

James Cruse

After acquiring his degree in Quantity Surveying, James began his career at Wildgoose over eighteen years ago as assistant QS. James quickly progressed through the ranks to become Commercial Manager.

As Commercial Manager, James is responsible for costs and budgets. Day to day operations include cost control, ensuring projects are delivered on budget and generally overseeing all financial elements of a scheme.

James is a family man who loves travelling. He also has a passion for Lotus Sports and is rather fond of golf too.

Sam Gilthorpe

After studying Sports Science at college, Sam felt a change in career path necessary. In his first couple of years at Wildgoose, Sam learnt the ropes of Estimating with his mentor; Richard, before progressing to become a very valued Assistant Estimator in the team.

Currently working towards his BTEC diploma in Building Studies at Chesterfield College on a day release basis, Sam is well on his way to becoming a full fledged Estimator for Wildgoose.

In his spare time, Sam is passionate about football, playing for his local team as well as the Wildgoose five-a-side team.

 

Paul Metcalfe-Smith

After a successful 12 year career in the Royal Air Force as a Motor Transport Technician, Paul left the RAF and went back into education to study Health & Safety at the University of Central Lancashire, where he also gained his MSc in Organisational Development & Consultancy.

At Wildgoose, Paul is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, quality and environmental management is applied, up to date and in line with industry standards, as well as monitoring training and apprenticeships.

In his spare time, Paul sails racing dinghies at international level and once raced bob sledges too. He has also completed 4 parachute jumps!

Tony Wright
Customer Care Manager

Having worked in construction since he was 16 years old, Tony started out as an apprentice joiner. Soon after, he set up his own company and later moved on to work for other national firms as Maintenance Manager and Small Works Manager.

As Customer Care Manager, Tony oversees the 12 month defects period for every project, as well as issuing defects certificates.

Tony is a devoted Formula 1 fan and attends the British Grand Prix every year, without fail. He also loves travelling, and has recently visited Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Egypt.

Kevin Lewis

Beginning his career as an apprentice, Kevin worked towards a HNC in Building Studies. He has been employed in both Estimating and Buying roles for several companies throughout his career.

As a Senior Buyer for Wildgoose Construction for the past 12 years, Kevin has an abundance of experience. He is responsible for the procurement of all subcontractors and trades, and the purchase of all materials required on every project carried out by Wildgoose.

In his free time, Kevin loves cycling, jogging and walking – and where better to do it, than in the heart of the Peak District.

Julie Wombwell

Employed at Wildgoose for 26 years, Julie works in the Accounting department, which is made up of a four further members of staff.

Julie carries out day to day tasks including maintaining purchase ledgers, invoices, arranging payments and keeping customer records up to date.

An avid music fan, Julie’s loves attending concerts and gigs and her favourite band is ‘The Darkness’. She is passionate about ‘Speedway’ motorbike racing and football too, supporting Chesterfield and Chelsea.
